When the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs started I took all of the teams and inputted them into the playoff mode of EA Sports’ NHL 12.
I took the helm of the Detroit Red Wings. After a grueling 7 game series against Nashville, I handily swept the Blackhawks for the right to face the LA Kings in the conference final.
It was a vicious 6 game series that included a game freeze when I was going on a 5-on-3 powerplay in a crucial game 5. Then there was the goal where I laid down to block the shot and the put went through my body. As in there was nowhere for the puck to go and it physically passed through my player’s ribcage. Still trying to figure that one out.
So after 6 games my Detroit Red Wings were ready to face the New York Rangers for the Stanley Cup.
It was to be a truly epic series… on paper. Out of all the series, this one was the easiest and most lop sided. Blowouts. Every game. I swept New York faster than you can say “road team.”
So the verdict on EA Sports 12? Fun 1, Realism 0.
Maybe in NHL 13 the AI players will skate towards the puck when it comes near them instead of looking confused or frightened by it.
